Its funny how I used to long for time off from work, but now that I have that in abundance, I'm bored!
Aside from the lack of a paycheck (which I'm trying not to stress out about, because stressing out about money is not going to make any more flow into my bank account), some of this time off is good. I'm getting things done around the house that I've been meaning to do for months. I'm volunteering at a cat rescue and trying to get a volunteer job at a government agency (both for the resume bonus and for the learning experience). I'm also getting a lot of gym time, which is really great for my health as well as my stress level.
However, I usually get to the point of my day where I don't want to search for jobs, or read a book or clean anything else... and then I don't know what to do with myself.
I know I will find something soon... after I find a job, I hope that this will have been a good learning experience, that I'm able to appreciate a job more, that I'm smarter with my money, and that I am able to come out of this with some new life skills (organization, motivation, stress management, and relationships with both co-workers and friends).

Got loads of stuff going on with me, just not sure I want to put all of it up on the interwebs.... Contemplating...
I had a dream that Cathy Zielske and her kids had been trapped in some building fire and we thought they were dead. Then I was in a catholic church, praying for them, when the Pope showed up (I think it was John Paul, not the current pope) and told me to have faith, and they would be saved. I fell asleep in one of the pews and when I woke up, Cathy and her kids were there - covered in soot and coughing, but fine.
I worry about my scrapbooking idols when I'm asleep. Greeeeaaaat.
If you are on a treadmill talking on a cell phone... and I can hear you from 40 feet away OVER my blaring IPod... then really, are you working out or just taking a leisurely stroll? Why are you at the gym? You could do that for free outside.
Oh, and please SHUT UP!

One of my favorite authors, Robert Jordan, died this afternoon after a battle with Amyloidosis.
I read the first book in his Wheel of Time series when I was a sophomore in high school and thought the books were wonderful. Complicated... but I loved them. I had recently begun re-reading the series in the hope that the last book. A Memory of Light would be out in 2008 or 2009.

I was at the gym a couple of days ago, running on the treadmill, when a lady a couple of treadmills down yelled "GO DOWN, DAMMIT! I told you to GO DOWN!!"
It took me a couple of minutes to realize that she was yelling AT the treadmill.
She stayed on for about another 20 minutes, yelling at the treadmill every 5 minutes or so, until she finally exploded into a rage (shaking the handles that measure your heart rate, stomping angrily, and so mad she was yelling in a hysterical squealing voice), turned the treadmill off, and then stomped out of the gym in a huff.
I don't love the treadmill either, but I can usually remember that its an inanimate object. ;)
Reason No. 429 that I should not have drinks in my workspace: I just spilled a glass of water all over about $20 worth of scrapbooking supplies and some pictures I was planning on using. Dammit.
In good news though, I have been using Open Office to do most of my titles and text boxes when I scrapbook. The version I have is totally free and it looks like the MS Office -compatible version is CHEAP! And it seems to do some things that office can't, like type text in a circular text box... and actually have the text format itself into a circular shape instead of a square box of text inside a circle! (I could do that myself, thanks!)
Ahh, public transportation. Most of the time its a job perk, saves me commute time and gas money, prevents me from working completely insane hours (sometimes), stops me from having to kill idiot drivers, etc.
Lately I've been working long days and catching the 6:45 bus home. I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't get up earlier so I can catch an earlier bus home. The driver is a maniac! 60 miles per hour in a 25 and through a construction zone? Check. Gratuitous brake-slamming? Check. Removal of bus suspension system and shocks before undertaking bus route? Check and check!
Today's trip reminded me of Nightmare on Elm Street 2 (?) where Freddy is driving the school bus full of kids off a cliff - I wanted to scream... at the driver to slow down. I was talking to Amy on the way home today (as is our MO for weekdays) and she said the bus noises as we went through the construction zone sounded like someone firing a gun.
Could be worse1! He used to drive an earlier bus on the same route. He almost ran a red light one afternoon and had to slam on the brakes so hard that someone fell down in the aisle.
I guess anything is better than the catshit breath guy sitting next to you and breathing in your general direction, though.

Its been quite a while since I've gone, so it was good to get out of the house last night and see some Rollerderby. And the pre-game Chino Bandito was great, as always.
They had some new girls in the lineup for both teams this time. I love the names, and numbers... If I was a derby girl, I think my name would be Special K. My number: OMGPONIES!1!!
