| Rollerderby - June |
Its been quite a while since I've gone, so it was good to get out of the house last night and see some Rollerderby. And the pre-game Chino Bandito was great, as always.
They had some new girls in the lineup for both teams this time. I love the names, and numbers... If I was a derby girl, I think my name would be Special K. My number: OMGPONIES!1!!
:)
Update: Mad props to Brian for recognizing the Mrs. Beasley glasses in the "Baby Nerd" picture. I seem to remember the doll being way cooler and less creepy than that. Mine is up in my Dad's attic somewhere...

Inspired by Brian's post... and for your laughing pleasure, I present:
For some reason, this post makes me laugh until I cry, every time I read it. I guess its because I had the same reaction?
Of my dad's two (potential) children, I'm definitely the tomboy. When my dad and I hang out, we do "guy stuff". X-mas eve consisted of:
- watching football
- drinking beer
- eating steak and baked potatoes
- playing dominoes
Nevermind that I was knitting a scarf while we watched football...
I may be coming down with a cold, or maybe my allergies are flaring up. Either way, I'm not sure that I'll be leaving the house today (I'm feeling kinda crappy).
I hope you all (the 4 of you that read this) had a great holiday. :)
So I had the thing (a.k.a an infected salivary gland) removed from my lip yesterday. I fainted when the poor doctor went to put stitches in, and now my bottom lip has swelled up to the size of Outer Mongolia. And the stitch the doc put in has put a weird crease in my lip. The GregTM tried to pull the stitch out for me before he went to work this morning, but now I think the knot is further embedded in my lip. Hopefully I'll be able to yank it out if/when the swelling goes down this afternoon. If it heals like this, I'll need plastic surgery. Like NEED, instead of the stuff I WANT done.
I'm working from home today, drooling on myself in the privacy of my home... hoping no one calls my cell phone.

We went to see the new James Bond movie last night (because I can't go to the gym for a couple of days). I learned the following:
- Daniel Craig is a SEXY BITCH. Every time he ran around in those little swim trunks or someone ripped his shirt off I wanted to yell "YAY!".
- Eva Green (Vesper) is hot, for a chick. I'm totally jealous of the rack. Plus, the PAY that bitch to make out with Daniel Craig. How lucky is she?!
- The movie was really good... very low on the cheese factor, unlike previous films.
- Women in their 50's have no business wearing acid-washed jeans, even in a dark theatre. (couple sitting near us was out on a date, the woman's outfit would have looked cute on some 22-year old, but was ridiculous on a 55-year old)
Some random thoughts from this last week - I'm thankful for:
- My Dad
- My crazy-ass (half) Sister
- My boyfriend
- My house
- My job
- My cats
- My friends
- My health (?)
- Being an adult and not being forced to endure unpleasant relatives during the holidays, or travel if I don't feel like it
- Football, turkey, and pie!
The GregTM and I will be heading off to his parents house in a couple of hours. :)
I decided yesterday that I was going to do absolutely nothing productive today... I would normally feel bad about that because I've got a ton of stuff going on here at the house and at work. However, I will most likely be working all day on either Friday or Saturday. I have some reports that need to be reviewed and submitted to the state on Tuesday, and I'll be out at Dr. Appointments most of the day on Monday.
An update on the Dr. Appointment from Monday: The new nurse practitioner was actually super nice, and it greatly lessened my anger to get a sympathetic ear about my desire to get sterilized as well as some referrals. I have an appointment with an Ear/Nose/Throat to get a spot in my mouth looked at on Monday afternoon, and another Dr. Appointment on Monday morning to attempt to get the ball rolling on getting sterilized.
I'm hoping the spot is nothing to be concerned about. Its on the inside of my lower lip - she says these are almost always just an infected salivary gland... or a "mouth zit", if you will. But that mine looked "odd" and I should see a specialist to get it snipped out/off. As for the sterilization, I have done a lot of research and decided that I'd like the Essure tubal implants instead of the actual surgery. Now, I just need to find a doctor that will help me out.
This is something I've been thinking about for years, but the more I think about it, the more I'd like to get this done. Now. Before Bush's religious whack-job guy takes over the Title X program. Especially after visiting with a friend of a friend last weekend (who is a Dr.) and having him insinuate that I'm somehow insane for not wanting children... And that I should just get my husband to get fixed. I dare say that I've done more thinking about why I don't think children are a good choice for me than 90% of the people who do have children ever do about why they think kids are a good idea.
I've tried explaining my unfortunate genetic history, I've tried asking why my health comes second (with regard to my cholesterol issue) to some children I may or may not have in the future, and I've tried expressing how much I don't think I'd be a good parent. I guess I need to bust out the Mom card. :(
I may actually go see the new James Bond Movie in the theatre, but only in hopes to catch some of this.
Meeeee-OW!
I know I haven't posted in a while, been super busy at work and I was out of town last weekend to visit a friend in Tucson.... I just want to share this picture from the All Souls Procession:
Quote of the evening: <Amy is looking at her wooden dollar-store crucifix> Man, Jesus is really cut! (Cut, as in muscular.)
Oh, and the fire performers from the end of the procession and the personal altars vigil the night before are using my pictures on their site. :) My first photo credit (let the record show that I did not ask for my name/website to be that HUGE on the bottom of each photo. Holy shit.)
The Amazing Amy whipped up my costume for our Day of the Dead festivities next weekend in the space of 2 hours last night. It needs just a little tweaking, but it was amazing that she could sew a costume without using a pattern...
We are going as Dominican Nuns. And yes, we're going straight to hell.
Please keep your hands and arms inside the handbasket at all times....
I scored big on the retail therapy today. So much so, that I may never buy brand new jeans again.
My Sister's Closet: Not huge but had a wide selection. They had some brand new stuff, a lot of designer things that I wasn't really interested in... But I got three super-cute denim work-appropriate skirts, one of them never worn, for $27.
Buffalo Exchange: I traded in some clothes here, scored $65 in store credit and then hit the fabulous (and huge!) jeans section. I ended up with about 8 new pairs of jeans and an insanely cute pink courdiroy blazer/jacket for $125 before subtracting the store credit. Most of the jeans I got had been worn maybe twice, if ever. I even tried on some 7 for all mankind jeans. Very cute! But for $55 at a second-hand store, they had better make my ass look Vegas Stripper Hot, which didn't happen. What do these things retail for? Like $225? They ain't that great.
A Second Look: Big, had furniture, but the clothes were too old-lady for me. I did get an expensive-ish skirt for $5.
After I got home today I was kicking myself for:
- Buying a ton of brand new jeans while I was losing weight this last year.
- Giving my sister all 15 pairs of my brand new jeans when they got too big.
Live and learn...
